This paper deals with the numerical modelling of a geosynthetic reinforced earth retaining structure. A finite element analysis of the step by step construction of a real structure has been carried out using a FE-Program and the results are compared with the results of the measurements in situ. The construction phases have been modelled and different constitutive models have beeb adopted for the soil and for the soil-geosynthetic interaction. The challenges of numerical modelling of such structures are discussed briefly and the importance of modelling exact construction conditions is stressed.
