The Measurement of Displacement Vectors with the TRIVEC Borehole Probe

Abstract:

Providing the Sliding Micrometer-ISETH with an inclinometer Sensor capable of rotating inside the probe has led to the borehole instrument TRIVEC. This device provides all three components of the displacement vector along vertical boreholes. The full distribution of the measured quantities brings all the advantages of "linewise observations". Further, the precision of the device is high enough making it suitable for applications even in cases where only small deformations occur. However, the deviation of the borehole axis from the vertical has to be kept to a minimum.
