Sliding Micrometer and Piezodex measurements in the foundation area of the Albigna dam In 1980, measurements with the Sliding Micrometer in the foundation area of the Albigna dam showed the existence of joints which open and close due to variation of the reservoir water level. A comprehensive research project was carried out from 1987 to 1992 to help clarify the characteristics of flow in fissured rock at different water levels. Piezometric pressures were measured using the Piezodex system. A comparison of the results of both types of measurements produced a correlation between the rock deformations and the hydraulic potential. Later on these instruments were used for permanent monitoring.
