Shear strength properties of tropical black clays

Abstract:

Triaxial shear test and ring shear test results of undisturbed and remoulded samples are presented herein. There is evidence that black clays may exhibit varying degrees of overconsolidation depending on both the mineralogical characteristics and the physical state. The residual strength however is shown to depend primarily upon the mineral composition which for practical purposes is best manifested in plasticity characteristics.
